Local Scottish Liberal Democrat, John Waddell, has written to the Conservative MP for West Aberdeenshire & Kincardine calling for him to listen to his constituents and back a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal.
Theresa May’s EU deal was heavily defeated by 230 votes in the House of Commons earlier this week, the worst defeat ever experienced by a UK Government in parliamentary history. In the letter to the MP, the prospective candidate for West Aberdeenshire & Kincardine labelled this week’s events a ‘very sorry saga’ and urged Mr Bowie not to let the country go off the cliff edge with a ‘No Deal’ Brexit.
Mr Waddell went on to say: “Brexit has become a national embarrassment and the humiliating defeat for the Prime Minister is just the latest example of a very sorry saga. There is very little will for a ‘No Deal’ Brexit, Theresa May’s deal is dead and it’s been repeatedly restated that there is no other deal to be negotiated.
“Mr Bowie and I both know how important Scotland relationships are, with both the UK and the EU, for our economy, our security, and for the opportunities for ordinary people here in West Aberdeenshire & Kincardine.
“I am calling on Mr Bowie to join his Tory colleagues Dominic Grieve, Jo Johnson, Anna Soubry and many others, to give the final say to his constituents and back a People’s Vote on the final decision to leave the European Union.
“The only sensible solution is to give the people of West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine the final say and the opportunity to choose an alternative future for the country.”
In addition to his letter, John Waddell is also calling on other constituents of West Aberdeenshire & Kincardine to do the same: “Brexit is a cliff edge that will affect us all. It threatens the security of our economy from our financial services to our vital oil & gas industry.
“If we join this fight together and call upon our MP to back a people’s vote he’ll have to listen to us. So I’m asking everyone who wants the final say on Brexit to write to Andrew Bowie and ask him to join our fight for a People’s Vote.”
