In a letter to North East MSP Mike Rumbles Aberdeenshire Council outlined their planned Council Tax increases for 2017/18, claiming that the Scottish Government’s imposed national increase would only be 3% - despite the actual figure being between 7.5% and 22.5%.
On top of that, the council plan increases of 2.5% in order to balance the books. The letter explains that the council’s proposed hike will be on top of the Scottish Government imposed raise of 3% for bands E to H, but this is far from correct.
North East MSP Mike Rumbles said: “This is an astonishing sleight of hand from an SNP led administration in Aberdeenshire. The Scottish Government’s new legislation clearly states that band E homes will see a 7.5% rise in Council Tax rate and that will increase though bands F and G to 22.5% for band H.
“What is clear from this letter is that it is an complete shambles at the top of the SNP council and their figures are an attempt to cover up the appalling increases imposed by their SNP colleagues in the Scottish Government.
“I would very much like to hear their explanation for this error.”
