Keep rural practices dispensing – Mike Rumbles MSP

Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP for the North East, Mike Rumbles, has called for residents of the North Easts remote rural communities to make their voices heard and protect the dispensing status of their local GPs.

Following a legal challenge to the dispensing status of Haddo Medical Group, NHS Grampian is conducting a public consultation to establish difficulty accessing community pharmacies for patients of Auchenblae, Gardenstown, Portlethen, Rhynie, Skene and Udny Station GP practices.

Tap O’North Community Council, Strathdon Community Council, CarAid Rhynie and Mr Rumbles have joined forces to express their concern that patients of the Rhynie practice in particular may be put in serious difficulty should they stop dispensing vital medicines.

Mr Rumbles commented after meeting campaigners at Rhynie Medical Practice, saying:

“These remote rural practices serve communities that are some distance from their nearest community pharmacy and for them to lose dispensing status would result in serious difficulty for local people. This will create an unreasonable burden, particularly for those in poor health

“I believe it is absolutely essential that these services be kept available for the residents of Rhynie and in all of our rural communities. I would encourage all residents in the areas affected to complete NHS Grampians consultation questionnaire
