1 in 8 Scotrail trains are still not arriving on time, according to PPM (Public Performance Measure) figures published for February, today.
Scotrail’s average performance remains at its worst level for a decade. In the past month, 87.6% of trains arrived within 5 minutes of schedule, with more than a quarter of trains arriving late at stations such as Arbroath, Aviemore and Markinch. Well under the 92.5% industry standard.
Commenting on the latest missed targets, Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP Mike Rumbles said: “These performance figures are terrible. Services have been deteriorating for too long and the Scottish Government has done nothing to improve matters.
“Instead of putting all their efforts into avoiding bad headlines, by removing penalties for poor performance and letting Abellio off the hook, Ministers should use the powers they have to improve the situation for passengers.
“The Scottish Liberal Democrats have called on the Scottish Government to exercise the break clause in their contract with Scotrail and replace the current operator as soon as possible. It is the least they could do for Scotrail customers and the Scottish Taxpayer.””
