The Scottish Liberal Democrat’s have successfully negotiated extra funding in the Scottish budget to support the North East.
The Scottish Liberal Democrats have been engaged with SNP ministers on the Budget since the draft budget was published in January and think that people expect parties to work together in the middle of a pandemic. The focus of our MSPs has been to put recovery first.
NE Scottish Parliament Candidate, Rosemary Bruce, commented:
“£15 million to the North East for re-skilling and retraining is welcome. It was a specific Liberal Democrat ask and I congratulate Willie Rennie and our MSPs for securing it.
“Coming on top of the extra funding for schools and mental health and compensation for local councils, it is a start to our commitment to putting recovery first.
“For the North East to secure jobs and investment to achieve net zero carbon requires Governments, councils and industry to work together.
“I welcomed the allocation last week in the UK budget of extra funding for the Energy Transition Zone and the Underwater Hub.
“On top of the great work done by Opportunity North East, it is vital that all the key players work together.
“That way we will ensure that high skilled jobs and opportunities are retained here in the North East.”
