Waiting times in Accident and Emergency facilities across NHS Grampian hit an eight month low this week, with only 88.2% of patients being seen within the 4 hour deadline. The cash strapped local health board has not reached the 95% target in any week since 22nd July 2018.
Responding to the news that performance against the A&E waiting time target has fallen to its lowest level since 24th February, North East Liberal Democrat MSP Mike Rumbles commented:
“NHS Grampian is the worst funded health board in Scotland. It gets less money per head of population than any other health board area and the Scottish Government has failed to meet even its own target for funding. It is no wonder that our local health care services are consistently among the worst performing in the country.
“The hard-working staff in NHS Grampian are over stretched and most departments don’t have the resources they need to provide the same level of health care that patients in other parts of Scotland receive.
“What make matters worse is that the Scottish Government has turned a blind eye to the plight of NHS Grampian. It is appalling that despite underfunding the local health board by £239 million over the past decade the Health Secretary has confirmed that it will still not receive its fair share of funding in this years budget.”
