North East MSP Mike Rumbles has attacked the SNP government’s failure to tackle staff shortages within NHS Grampian, resulting in longer waits for vital treatment for many North East Residents.
Following reports that the health board was missing important cancer targets due to staffing shortages, Mr Rumbles said: “Long standing staffing issues at NHS Grampian have been inadequately handled by the SNP over the last decade. The long term effects of their neglect is putting unacceptable strain on our vital services.
“Who is at fault for the increase in waiting times and out of control agency and outsourcing spends is perfectly clear. NHS Grampian is not to blame.
“The SNP Government must grab the bull by the horns, simply saying spending on our NHS is at an all-time high is not good enough as demand is also at an all-time high. We need a step change increase in spending to attract the staff we need. Local people deserve real action to tackle this crisis.”
