NHS Grampian worst for cancelling operations

North East Liberal Democrat MSP, Mike Rumbles, has called for a fair share of resources be given to NHS Grampian after it was revealed today that the health board had the most cancelled operations in the country, due to non-clinical reasons.

Figures from IDS Scotland reveal 571 operations were cancelled, due to capacity or non-clinical reasons, across the whole county in February. NHS Grampian had the highest number of cancellations at 105, almost one in five of all cancellations.

Mike Rumbles said: “Once again NHS Grampian’s performance is the worst in the country. It cannot be a coincidence that our health board is also the most underfunded in the country.

“By the Scottish Government’s own figures NHS Grampian has been underfunded by a total of £239.2 million, over the past ten years. It is time the Scottish Government fixed this situation.

“I am outraged that the Scottish Government allows people in the North East to be repeatedly failed like this.”
