In a letter replying to concerns raised by North East MSP Mike Rumbles, the Chief Executive of NHS Tayside has confirmed that the board has no plans to close the hospital and that the site is key to the future delivery of health services in the region.
Chairman John Brown also added ‘more patients will be treated on the site in the future as we press ahead with our ambitious plans’.
Welcoming the news, Mr Rumbles said: “This is very welcome news for local communities and especially the patients that depend on Stracathro Hospital for local healthcare. I am particularly encouraged by confirmation that the board plans to expand the site to treat even more patients.
“The extent of shock and disappointment expressed at the news last week, that the hospital may have been under threat, shows just how important the facility is to the region.
“However, it is important not to sit back rest on our laurels, following this good news. I will be monitoring the situation as it progresses and I want to see guarantees that even more services will be provided locally.”
