North East MSP Mike Rumbles today criticised the inadequate traffic management plan proposed for the Dons new 20,000 seater stadium.
This Tuesday, Aberdeen Football Club lodged plans to build a new £50million stadium between the city and Kingswells. Local residents, however, have raised concerns that roads in the area won’t be able to cope with the additional traffic.
Mr Rumbles said: “I’m not surprised that these concerns have been raised. The roads around Westhill are not designed to cope with anything like these volumes of traffic that would be generated by this development.
“I have met club officials and developers several times in recent months and It is clear to me that no-one has thought through how tens of thousands of fans will travel back and forth without clogging up the local roads. I have now submitted these concerns in writing to Aberdeen City Council.
“As it stands, the clubs traffic management proposals are completely unworkable, they would be an unreasonable burden on the residents of Westhill and I don’t believe for one minute that the planners will approve this ill-thought proposal.”
