A North East MSP has called for an enquiry to investigate the catalogue of errors made by the Rural Affairs Minister, Fergus Ewing, in administering CAP payments.
In a letter to the Public Audit committee, Mr Ewing lists a growing list of errors in the administration of vital farm support payments. This included a duplicate payment of £850,000 to one business and loan overpayments totalling £746,000.
Scottish Liberal Democrat Rural Affairs spokesman, Mike Rumbles said:
“The Minister has presided over a horrifying comedy of errors. On his watch millions has been spent on a CAP I.T. system that doesn’t work, 2015/16 farm business payments were late, loans have been overpaid and now he has revealed overpayments of £1.35million.
“Mr Ewing is completely oblivious to the havoc he is causing in the rural economy and he must be held accountable for his failures”
