Rumbles commends Murton Trust

Rumbles commends work of local education charity.

Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP for the North East, Mike Rumbles, has praised a local Angus charity for its work with local young people and its initiatives aimed at increasing community access to local wildlife.

The Murton Trust, an educational charity just outside of Fofar, has provided rural training skills for young people as well as the wider Angus community for over 10 years. Set in an 80 acre nature reserve, the Trust is also home to a vast aray of native wildlife.

Commenting, Mr Rumbles said:

“The Murton Trust has many strings to its bow and I would highly recommend both the farm and the reserve, as an outstanding local visitor attraction.

“While the reserve and visitors centre are an impressive attraction, it is the Trusts educational work that I feel is particularly commendable. As an accredited SQA centre, the trust can provide nationally recognised qualifications in rural skills. The trusts work has given fantastic opportunities to those who prefer the practical to the academic.

“Services like this that provide practical and recognised skills are essential in helping young people, no matter what their strengths, to achieve their full potential. The trust tailors its training to suit individuals, building confidence and self-esteem in a supportive learning environment. I look forward to hearing more of their success stories.”

Also commenting, Alison Elliott of the Murton Trust said :

'We are eager for our educational programmes with 14 - 19 year olds to continue but securing funding for this is increasingly challenging. Due to our rural setting, we feel that vocational qualifications and opportunities are a vital pathway for many individuals and should be given the same level of recognition and importance as academic qualifications. We hope that any young person that wants to learn with us has the support to do so. Murton would like to thank Mike Rumbles MSP for his time and supporting the work that we are doing.'
