Scottish Liberal Democrat Business Manager Mike Rumbles MSP has today contacted other members of the Business Bureau to ask that the Scottish Parliament overhaul its diary for next week to allow for two days of debate on the outcome of the EU referendum.
Following the result, Mr Rumbles has requested that scheduled debates are postponed to allow two days of discussion after the First Minister’s statement on Tuesday.
At present, the Scottish Parliament is set to hold debates on BBC Charter developments and gender and the workplace when it returns next week.
Commenting, Mr Rumbles said:
“I have today contacted the other party business managers to ask that the Scottish Parliament postpone the debates scheduled for next week. This would allow two days of debate on Scotland’s response to the seismic referendum result.
“The market turmoil yesterday clearly demonstrated that Brexit is risking jobs, trade and growth. MSPs urgently need to have the opportunity to fully discuss how best to stabilise the economy and protect people’s livelihoods. This can’t wait until September.
“As many MSPs as possible from all parties should be allowed to have their say next week.”
