Rumbles reveals Aberdeen teacher crisis

North East Liberal Democrat MSP Mike Rumbles has today revealed that at the start of the latest school term, over 100 teaching posts in Aberdeen City have not been filled.

Figures obtained under freedom of information laws from Aberdeen City Council show 17 senior leadership roles vacant with 90 Principal or class teacher positions unfilled.

Mr Rumbles said:

"This is yet another set of figures showing the North East to have been neglected by the SNP government. I want Scotland to take its place as a World leader in education.

“Our young people are our future. We should not be failing them like this. We must make teaching an attractive career and make sure our teachers feel valued for the important work they do.

“Scottish Liberal Democrats are promising McCrone 2, an independent expert commission to review teachers' terms and the demands placed upon them and new retention bonuses paid to new teachers who commit to posts in hard-to-fill areas.”
