Scottish Liberal Democrat transport spokesman Mike Rumbles MSP today said Scotrail must focus on boosting reliability of Scotland's trains as a new petition called for improvements in rail services.
Mr Rumbles has also tabled parliamentary questions calling on the Scottish Government to clarify its own priorities for rail services after a recent press release appeared to be at odds with statements given in a media interview by the Minister for Transport.
Commenting, Mr Rumbles said:
“The problems with the reliability of rail services right across Scotland are well documented and the frustration of passengers who have signed this petition is wholly understandable. Passengers deserve better.
“We also need clarity from Scottish Government Ministers on their own priorities for the rail network. Recent comments from the Transport Minister that we need to put capacity and reliability ahead of wifi and nice seats are welcome. But they are wholly at odds with recent press statements issued by the same Minister on new funding for wifi and tables on rail services.
“Improving the experience of passengers is of course important but the best way to ensure people enjoy their journeys is to get them to their destination on time.”
