North East MSP Mike Rumbles today slammed Kevin Stewart, minister for housing, to for failing to even acknowledge the level of homelessness in the region which has been affected by the oil and gas crisis.
Earlier this month the SNP administration confessed that building targets of socially rented homes in Scotland fell a staggering 7,500 short of the 30,000 promised.
Figures released yesterday by National Statistics confirm that the number of children living in temporary accommodation throughout the country has shot up by 519 in the past year.
Mr Rumbles said: “The shocking admission by the Scottish Government that they have not even assessed the level homelessness in the North East, along with damming figures on home building and child homelessness, shows complacency and a lack of action for those adversely affected by the downturn in oil and gas.
“I urge the Scottish government to make a full and comprehensive assessment now, so that families aren’t abandoned.”
