Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson and North East MSP Mike Rumbles has today welcomed the Laurencekirk Junction upgrade option.
Named Option 1A, it will encompass four roads taking traffic on and off the A90, two roundabouts and a link bridge to the south-west of Laurencekirk. The option is currently on display at a public exhibition in Laurencekirk.
After a fatal accident in 2006 Mr Rumbles and local campaigners have been calling for these changes to the junction.
Mike Rumbles said: “After a decade we now have the best choice for all those travelling on the A90 near the Laurencekirk.
“A grade-separated road will be safer for all road users stopping cars from crossing oncoming traffic.
“This option has been assessed to limit environmental impact and work effectively with the existing infrastructure. I hope to see shovels in the ground as soon as possible.”
Notes for editors:
The exhibition is open to the public at the Dickson Memorial Hall, Station Road, Laurencekirk. Friday the 20th July, 12noon – 7pm and Friday 24th August, 12noon – 7pm.
