Mr Rumbles, who has been campaigning for safety improvements at the junction for over a decade, said: “I’m pleased that work has finally begun to upgrade the dangerous junction linking Laurencekirk to the A90.

“It has been a long and hard fought campaign by local activists like Jill Fotheringham, who began the campaign in 2005. The project has been set-back time and time again by the Scottish Government and when the Liberal Democrat Transport minister at the time installed temporary safety measures on the road we did not think it would take this long for work to begin.

“A grade-separated road will be safer for all road users stopping cars from crossing oncoming traffic. I will continue to press for this work to be carried out in good order and for construction to begin as soon as possible.”
