Scot Govt’s NRAC formula still failing NHS Grampian to the tune of £7.7 million

NHS Grampian is set to lose out on another £7.7 million in 2019/20, according to the latest NHSScotland Resource Allocation Committee (NRAC) figures provided by the Scottish Government today.

Data obtained for Mike Rumbles MSP by the Scottish Parliamentary Library (SPICe) shows that Scottish Government funding for NHS Grampian will miss its current target of £916.2 million by 0.8% this year. Down to £908.5 million for 2019/20. Adding to the £165.6 million shortfall for the health board between 2009-18.

The North East Liberal Democrat MSP said: “The Scottish Government has utterly failed to deliver proper healthcare in the North East and that is not surprising because it has missed its own funding target for NHS Grampian every year since 2009.

“That adds up to millions of pounds for lifesaving treatments, essential healthcare services and hundreds of hospital staff that have ended up in Scottish Government coffers rather than providing for patients.

“Health minister after health minister has ignored and refused to take responsibility for the issues faced by NHS Grampian, which has been the worst funded health board in Scotland for a decade.

“It will now take years to repair the damage and put NHS Grampian back on a level pegging with other health boards in Scotland. I am sorry to report that I have no confidence in this Scottish Government to make the budgetary changes we desperately need and why I will be voting against the Scottish Government’s budget on Thursday.”
